JB Motorsport returns to a SRO based series – this time the GT Sports Club
After taking a break from professional motorsport, the Swedish-based JB Motorsport returns to race in tight and thrilling competition in the SRO-organized GT Sports Club series.
Five exclusive races held during Blancpain Endurance and Blancpain Sprint Series weekends.
The GT Sports Club has been created for Bronze drivers who want to race in an exclusive but friendly atmosphere, with the “Iron” category being introduced for drivers over the age of 60. This series provides gentleman racers with the opportunity to fight for race wins against their peers.
The weapon of choice for the new JB Motorsport effort is the well-proven Audi R8 LMS ultra. The recently acquired car was successfully raced by Phoenix Racing at many races in various series.
For the new season, JB Motorsport will cooperate closely with crew, engineers and technicians of Phoenix Racing, combining their knowledge with the enthusiasm and passion of JB Motorsport’s own crew.
Surrounding team boss and driver Jan Brunstedt will be Martin Augustsson, Sebastian Crump, Kenneth Larsson, Hans Boström, Jan’s daughter Caroline and Fabian Weingart, who form the key parts of the effort.
The car, sporting the well-known JB Motorsport colors in new fresh shapes, will be raced in all five of the GT Sports Club events and some chosen races in Sweden, which will be announced later on.

This year JB Motorsport has a shorter racing schedule due to some date collisions, nevertheless we picked out the cherries to show our abilities.
The first event of the three was held during the 24h of Spa weekend as part of the BRCC championiship in Belgium.
In two eventful races we managed to score two class victories and one overall podium with a fine third place.
Jan Brunstedt drove the whole races alone by himself, he also won the Gentlemen Trophy at this event!

Here you can follow the highlights video of that two races:
The second race weekend also took part in the belgium BRCC championship, this time the Spa 600 km race. Because of the long race distance we used a three driver lineup consisting of team owner Jan Brunstedt, his fellow co-driver in Blancpain Endurance Series back in 2012, Mikael Bender and the younger swede Magnus Dybeck.
Both races were free of any trouble and so the drivers managed to bring the car home with a class victory and a fourth place overall, just behind full GT3 cars in the latest specification whereas our Audi R8 LMS is an older spec racing car from 2011.
Here you can follow the highlights video of that the Spa 600:
Last but not least, we participated in a nice sprint racing event at Falkenberg Motorbana, where we won both races in which we took part. Jan Brunstedt did an excellent driving being able to finish ahead of all opponents!
Now we are very much looking forward to a special highlight in this season. We will run the Swedish GT race at Mantorp Park very soon, where Jan Brunstedt will be enforced behind the wheel by the famous Rickard Rydell touring car legend!
2013 will remain as an unexampled year in our memories. As we started this season we never ever expected such a course. Last race weekend at Mantorp Park raceway the successes culminated in winning all available titles in the series we participated in. But one thing at a time…
Qualifying: Swedish GT
In the early stages of the race weekend all practice sessions went quite well without any technical issues, the achieved laptimes were quite promising for the qualifying and the race. As we headed to the qualifying session we managed to climb up in the top spot of the time sheets, maintaining P1 till close to the end of the session. We achieved our laptime on old tires, considering the time we quit using new tires and heading out again.
But our close rival in the other Audi R8 LMS sent Daniel Roos out on new tires. Roos, known as a very fast driver with JB Motorsport in the final races of the Blancpain Endurance Championship 2012, managed to top our time in the very last lap. So we had to start „only“ from P2, but in the front row.
Race: Swedish GT
We decided Christer to start the race. He did great and was able to overtake Daniel Roos, who drove the start for Alfab Racing in their Audi R8 LMS, for P1! Nevertheless Roos was able to stay in touch with Christer and after about 8 laps Roos was able to overtake Christer again. The two drivers showed hard, but great and most important: fair racing, entertaining the crowds on the stands.
As the mandatory pitstop came closer the safetycar we summoned on the track after an hard accident of one of our rivals. First we decided to stay behind Daniel Roos as we expected Jan to be faster than the second driver of Alfab Racing, but then we, as a team, changed our mind and called Christer for a pitstop in the safetycar period. Retrospectively this was the wrong decision and our mistake which cost us the pretty sure race victory.
After the pitstops and the already finished safety car period we had a gap of 17 seconds to the leading Audi of Alfab Racing. Jan was able to reduce the gap to the leader to about 10 seconds, but behind our car the Ferrari of Kari Mäkinen/Hampus Rydma became bigger and bigger in the mirrors. We knew that the third spot on the podium would be enough to secure the team championship, so Jan took it easy and let the Ferrari through.
In the end we ended up third in the race but which is much more important: after Jan being already crowned as the champion, Christer was safe as second best driver behind Jan and JB Motorsport won the teams championship in Swedish GT 2013, too!
Race: Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia
Not to forget about Jan’s participation at the Porsche Carrera Cup Race. After winning some races in class earlier this year, he finished twice third on the podium in both races, which made Jan Brunstedt Porsche Carrera Cup Champion in Class B in 2013!
So now we can officially call us TRIPLE CHAMPIONS 2013!
But the year is not over yet: there are some more events to come, f.e. the official price giving of Audi Sport Customer Racing in Neckarsulm which we are really looking forward too!
JB Motorsport and Jan Brunstedt have been unbeaten in the 2013 Swedish GT Championship so far this year, and we continued our winning streak at Knutstorp last weekend.
Jan Brunstedt has already been crowned as the 2013 Swedish GT driver’s champion and now we are focussing on achieving second place in the driver’s standings with Christer Lindholm. The #4 JB Motorsport Audi R8 LMS was driven by Jan at every round this year, but he was also joined in victory by Christer Lindholm on a number of occasions. Christer is in the fight for second place in the championship, despite him not having taken part in all of the rounds.
The Swedish GT Championship was at Knutstorp last weekend, the fifth and penultimate meeting of the season. The JB Motorsport Audi R8 LMS was again placed on pole position for the race. We backed up the pole by taking yet another race victory, remaining unbeaten with six victories this year.
Another great result for the JB Motorsport team, with Jan Brunstedt as champion and Christer Lindholm ever closer to clinching second place in the championship.
The final round of the 2013 Swedish GT Championship will be taking place at Mantorp Park at 21st of September.
Following the latest successes in Anderstorp Jan Brunstedt was able to extend his point lead in the drivers championship even further. Therefore Jan Brunstedt is the Swedish GT Champion 2013!
After scoring five wins in the first five races of the year the gap to the opponents is too big to close within the next races.
As there are more races to come this year, the team won’t stop to work as hard as ever. There is still the second spot in the championship to occupy. Christer Lindholm is fighting for it, although he has only participated in three of the events this year. Additionally JB Motorsport is in the points lead in team rankings which is quite surprising as the direct opponents score with two cars each race!
Following read some quotes of the champ:
Question: „The season has been close to a dream so far. Did you expect such an outstanding victorious development and what do you think now being the champion?“
Jan Brunstedt: “ I did not expect such a season! I think it is due to that we have a very experienced team ( all the guys from last year in Blancpain ) we have a great race engineer (Sebastian Crump) and a very good second driver ( Christer Lindholm ) and for sure a very good car. I want to thank all people who have been involved for making this happen!“
Question: „Your new teammate Christer Lindholm was a real boost for the whole team. Will there be more races for him this year?“
Jan Brunstedt: „Right now we try to find an international race to end the season.“
Question: „Although JB Motorsport races only one car the team is close to the team title too. Are you willing to score this title or do you consider it as more difficult as your direct opponent scores with two cars?“
Jan Brunstedt: „For sure we are looking for the team title, too. We have decided to do all we can to get that championship!“
Question: „After that incredible season, what are the plans for the future? Will the fans see JB Motorsport again in 2014 in Swedish GT or maybe somewhere else?“
Jan Brunstedt: „We talked a lot about this now and if we can, we will do some international races next year. At the moment there hasn’t been a decision whether we’ll drive again in Sweden or maybe in international racing.“
